What this source tells us
Participation in the labour force, employment and unemployment. Monthly all-India results are split by sex and rural/urban location. The age cutoff, reporting period and activity-status definition belong beside every rate.
Total population, every kind of unpaid activity, or an annual usual-status employment rate. Unemployment has the labour force as its denominator, while LFPR and WPR use the corresponding population. Comparisons across the January 2025 design change need the official comparability notes.

The monthly bulletin offers a recent view of participation in work. Its Current Weekly Status classification refers to the seven days preceding each interview.
Labour force participation and the worker population ratio use the relevant population as their denominator. Unemployment uses the labour force instead. A 5.0% unemployment rate is not a claim that 5.0% of all people in India are unemployed.
- All selected figures concern people aged 15 and above and combine rural and urban India.
- Monthly Current Weekly Status and annual usual-status measures use different observation windows.
- PLFS changed its sampling design from January 2025. Read the methodology before comparing across that change.
