Browsing, searching and comparing
The search, filtering and comparison tools operate in your browser using the site’s published reference data. This version does not include a visitor registration form, newsletter signup or contact form.
Search terms and selected comparison places can appear in the page address. A comparison link includes the two place identifiers so that another visitor can open the same view. The market-sizing tool calculates scenarios in your browser. When you choose Copy scenario link, the address includes the baseline, assumptions and any source text you supplied. Include only information you intend to share; the CSV download also contains those inputs.
Your number-format preference
If you select Indian or international number grouping, the site may save that preference in your browser’s local storage. It stores the format choice only. You can remove it by clearing site data in your browser settings.
Hosting and external links
This version is hosted through ChatGPT Sites. The hosting provider may process connection, security and access information under its own terms and privacy policy. Access may depend on the site’s sharing settings.
Official source links take you to external websites. Any original archive image that could not be preserved locally may load from its original publisher. Those providers handle requests under their own policies.
Optional analytics
On populationindia.com, advertising and optional analytics use the existing PopulationIndia Google accounts.
On the production domain, Google Analytics 4 loads only after you choose Allow analytics. Declining leaves the reference pages and research tools available. Your choice is saved in local storage as populationindia-analytics-consent. Use Analytics preferences in the footer to change it. Clearing site data also removes the saved choice.
Analytics receives the page title and page address without query parameters or fragments. Referring-page query parameters are also removed. Search terms, comparison selections, calculator assumptions and custom source notes are not sent as analytics events. Google may process connection and device information when its service is enabled. Advertising personalisation signals and Google signals are disabled in this adapter. Withdrawal changes consent for future collection; it does not erase records already received by Google.
Advertising and consent
Labelled placements use PopulationIndia’s existing Google AdSense publisher. AdSense display ads are enabled on eligible content pages. We request non-personalized advertising and use Google’s regional consent and ad-serving controls. Non-personalized ads may still use cookies for reporting, frequency limits and fraud prevention. The AdSense script loads only on the production domain and pages with reserved ad inventory. It is not loaded on the site’s search pages, comparison tools, privacy page or the Census explorer. AdSense may use cookies, storage and device information under the choices and settings presented by its consent service.
Advertising choices are separate from the optional analytics choice. Where required, advertising consent must be handled through Google’s certified consent messaging before ad serving begins. An analytics preference panel does not provide advertising consent. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services and its privacy policy.
