Tourist visits in India: activity, not resident population
A source-retained national series of domestic and foreign tourist visits, plus the named Manipur and Tamil Nadu rows, from the March 2026 parliamentary answer.

State and union-territory departments report domestic and foreign tourist visits. One person can generate repeated visits and visits to more than one destination. These records measure activity; dividing them by resident population does not produce a share of residents who travel.
The retained parliamentary table singles out Manipur and Tamil Nadu and combines other states. That combined row is not an individual state and cannot support a nationwide state ranking. The 2025 column is explicitly provisional; different publication vintages can revise earlier totals.

- DTV and FTV are visits reported by states/UTs. Foreign Tourist Arrivals at the national border are a different series.
- 2025 remains provisional in this source. These are the source’s precise counts, not conversions of rounded billion/million headlines.
- Only the named areas and national total in this extract are shown. No other-state disaggregation is invented.
These tables are historical observations or survey-period estimates. They are not a live feed or a forecast. Keep the population group, unit and reference period with every reused figure.
