Official table guide

Find the Census 2011 table for your question.

The PCA is a foundation, not the whole census. Other table families cover different populations and questions. Links below identify original official tables; discovery is distinct from a checked numerical import.

Settlements, households and urbanisation

Tables: PC11_A01, Primary Census Abstract.

Useful questions: Nation-to-village drilldown; Census town versus statutory town definitions; Comparable directory and downloadable source-backed tables.

Before using values: Store year-specific place codes and official boundary vintage; Distinguish town, municipal city and urban agglomeration; Validate total/rural/urban and household sums; Do not project 2011 village results onto new boundaries.

Age structure, children and ageing

Tables: PC11_C14-00, Primary Census Abstract.

Useful questions: Population pyramid; Child and older-adult comparison; Sex ratios with transparent units.

Before using values: Preserve age-not-stated; Document child and elderly age thresholds; Label any dependency ratio calculation and denominator; Never mistake a child share for child sex ratio.

Literacy and educational attainment

Tables: PC11_C08-00.

Useful questions: Education ladder beyond literacy headline; Male/female and rural/urban differences; Age-cohort comparisons.

Before using values: Literacy denominator is age 7+; Keep educational attainment distinct from attendance; Do not compare new digital-literacy variable with absent 2011 counterpart.

Migration and place of residence

Tables: PC11_D03-00, D-03 district, city and UA variants after individual verification.

Useful questions: Migration reasons and rural/urban routes; Internal versus international origin; Duration-aware comparisons.

Before using values: Distinguish birthplace from last residence; Do not treat migrants as current annual flow; Respect residence-duration bands and sex breakdown; Do not fabricate district coverage from country/state file.

Religious communities and social groups

Tables: PC11_C01-00, PCA SC, PCA ST.

Useful questions: Balanced community tables; SC/ST context with separate denominators; Classification-aware 2011/2027 comparisons.

Before using values: Retain other religions and not-stated; SC/ST totals are not a full caste distribution; Do not impute caste results from religion or surname; Avoid treating future questionnaire as released caste data.

Mother tongues and language communities

Tables: PC11_C16-00.

Useful questions: Language profiles for places; Transparent language-family grouping; Source-based multilingual context.

Before using values: Preserve language and mother-tongue hierarchy; Never add parent language plus component mother tongues; Separate mother tongue from knowledge of additional languages.

Disability and inclusion

Tables: PC11_C20-00.

Useful questions: Age/sex and residence breakdowns; Accessible explanatory charts; Clear limits on comparability.

Before using values: Preserve official historical categories with respectful explanation; Check denominator and age bands; Document questionnaire/classification changes before trend statements.

Housing, services and household assets

Tables: PC11_HL14 (district files), PC11_HH01 (normal household size, distinct series).

Useful questions: Water/sanitation/energy dashboards; Housing tenure and condition; Amenities linked to population context without pretending it is current census data.

Before using values: Households and population are different denominators; Exclude institutions where source does; Do not confuse HH-14 references in older material with catalogue's HL-14 series; Verify district files individually and don't treat Nawada example as national; Assets can overlap and their shares need not total 100.

Work and livelihood tables

The PCA separates main and marginal workers and broad economic activities. B-series tables add their own age, sex and work definitions; import them only after checking the original rows and categories.

Imported now: the PCA, religion C-01 and selected language C-16 tables. Other links above are official research sources; they do not imply that their complete numeric tables have been reproduced here.
