Population of Rajasthan 2011


Rajasthan is located in Northwest India. In terms of area, it is the largest state in the country. The state is also known as the “land of the Kings”. The pink city, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. The Thar desert occupies a large area in the state of Rajasthan. The state is one of the major tourist destinations, for both domestic as well as foreign travellers. The state ranks 8th in India, in terms of population. 

As per the census carried out by the government of India in 2011, the population totals of Rajasthan are mentioned below:

Total Population:
The population of Rajasthan as per the 2011 census is 68,621,012 compared to 56,507,188 in the 2001 census. In this decade the state of Rajasthan has registered a growth of 21.44% in total population. Rajasthan accounts for 5.67% of the total population of India.

Sex Ratio:
There are a total of 35,620,086 males and 33,000,926 females in Rajasthan. As per the 2011 census, the Sex Ratio of Rajasthan stands at 926 compared to 922 in the 2001 census. As mentioned in the table below, the Child sex ratio for the state has dipped significantly compared to 2001.

Total Child Population:
The total child population (0-6 years) in Rajasthan in 2011 is 10,504,916 compared to 10,651,002 in 2001. This is a very small decrease in child population when compared to the child population in 2001.

Urban & Rural Population:
Close to 3/4th of the population of Rajasthan reside in rural areas. The rural population makes up 75.11% whereas the urban population makes up 24.89% of the total population. The total rural & urban population as per the 2011 census is 51,540,236 & 17,080,776 respectively. There has been an increase of 29.26% in urban population over the last decade.

Population Density:
The total area of Rajasthan is 342,239 Km2. As per the 2011 census, population density is calculated at 201 persons per Km2, which is very low when compared to the national average of 382 per Km2. As per the 2001 census population density was calculated at 165 persons per Km2 which shows that there has been an increase of close to 22% in population density over the last decade.

Literacy Rate:
As per the census study of 2011, Rajasthan has a literacy rate of 67.06 %. The male literacy is 80.51% where as the female literacy is 52.66% only. There is a small improvement in literacy rate as compared to 2001 when the literacy rate in Rajasthan was 60.41%. However , the literacy rate in Rajasthan still continues to be among the lowest in the country.
