Population of Orissa 2011 census


Odisha, formerly known as Orissa, is located on the east coast. The capital of Odisha is Bhubaneswar. The state shares its border with West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh & Jharkhand. The state is the 11th most populated state in the country. Oriya is the most widely used language in Odisha. In terms of area, it is the 9th largest state in India.

As per the census carried out by the government of India in 2011, the population totals of Odisha are mentioned below:

Total Population:
The population of Odisha as per the 2011 census is 41,947,358 compared to 36,804,660 in the 2001 census. In this decade the state of Odisha has registered a growth of 13.97% in total population. Odisha accounts for 3.47% of the total population of India.

Sex Ratio:
There are a total of 21,201,678 males and 20,745,680 females in Odisha. As per the 2011 census, the Sex Ratio of Odisha stands at 978 compared to 972 in the 2001 census. The total child population (0-6 years) in Odisha in 2011 is 5,035,650 compared to 5,358,810 in 2001. This is a very notable decrease in child population when compared to the child population in 2001, which indicates that the population growth may stabilize over the next decade.

Literacy Rate:
As per the census study of 2011, Odisha has a literacy rate of 73.45%. The male literacy is 82.40% where as the female literacy is 64.36% only. There is a notable improvement in literacy rate as compared to 2001 when the literacy rate in Odisha was 63.08%.
